The problem of seafarers being away from their families

Seafarers stay away from their families and do not hear from their families. But on the other hand, families cannot hear from the seafarers and do not know where they are, how can this problem be solved?

Absolutely, @furkan-zblbl. The challenge of communication between seafarers and their families is a real issue. Improved satellite technology is part of the solution, making communication more accessible and affordable. Shipping companies should also take a more proactive role in keeping families informed about their loved ones.

However, an even more direct and potentially effective solution would be the development of a dedicated seafarer app. This app could serve as a one-stop platform where seafarers can stay in touch with their families and the broader seafarer community. It could provide real-time location updates, enable direct communication, and even offer resources for mental and emotional support.

In essence, addressing this issue requires a multifaceted approach. A seafarer app could be a game-changer, enhancing communication and fostering a stronger seafarer community.

I think this problem will be resolved once the satellite internet services (such as Starlink) become more widely spread and accessible. It seems like that’s where we are headed. At that point, working on the ship will be no different from working at any other office abroad, in terms of connectivity at least. So I think this problem will be a thing of the past soon.
