Working for a consignee and vessel charterer currently negotiating with the charter agent. Would it be economical if we will bear all port costs associated with the vessel calling at the discharge port at a cheaper freight or should we agree with the charter agent to give us a slightly higher freight but all these port costs (pilotage, tug assistance, berthing, mooring/unmooring, etc.) will be on their responsibility?
Hi Lara, it is impossible to answer this question - as you have to have the real numbers. But it can be analyzed in a simple way - just put down the numbers and scenarios in excel - and then compare them. You can easily see which scenario makes more money for you by playing with key variables.
Hey Lara, you could make a PDA inquiry from another local port agent and compare the numbers, just make sure that agent is credible, if the price difference isn’t considerable you could go with the chrtrs agent.
